I know a guy and boy does he have charisma and the innate ability to schmooze his way into getting what he wants from people. Embellishments are the order of the day because he will do whatever to get you to buy in.
To outsiders, this guy appears to be successful, but looking a little deeper reveals a series of failures, branded as “business successes”. You see, this guy is also quite the artful dodger.
I don’t know who said this but I like this saying: “Don’t let your charisma take you where your character cannot sustain you”
A lot of organizations can be likened unto this guy with their ability to do a stellar job at marketing their product without placing the much needed focus on ensuring customers love the product. What initially feels like success is actually a thumbs up on great marketing. It only takes a little time for such organizations to realize that they have superbly pushed a poor solution into the market. Many are not lucky enough to fix it fast enough before it becomes a commercial failure.
Getting the thumbs up from your addressable market on your product is the most crucial thing. It is much easier and quicker to fix marketing than it is to fix the wrong product pushed into the market.
