Many years ago, the company I worked for hired a new head of IT and one could feel the arrogance from this person a mile away. In the name of “disruption”, everyone was stupid and this person was going to fix everything and save the day. That did not last long…

What in the world can you fix without listening first to learn the following:
what is in place and how it came to be, what is required by the business and finally the lessons learned that need to be factored into the next gen platform.

Organizations need to be careful about hiring fake superhero’s that will take them several steps back in the name of “disruption”. Yes, legacy employees tend to hold on tightly to the old, but it is imparative to extract the value of the existing platform into the future state. Not doing that will be very costly to your business. Leave the limitations behind but extract the value of your lessons learned and your intellectual property.

Even in the name of disruption, you must first seek to understand… Not doing so could be very costly…
