The value of failure lies in our ability to take the lessons learned and make something of it.
I put so much into our business and held the reins so tightly that I became a bottleneck. I was afraid to let go because in my mind, there was a risk that others might not have done it as well as I would have. The real risk to the business was the bottleneck I had created. It cost us time to market, innovative ideas and made development very expensive amongst other things.
A lot of organizations have bottlenecks that are costing them a lot of money, valuable resources and presenting a serious risk to winning in the market. Here are some thoughts: If you hire competent people, let go and let them do the job. Consistently check your processes to eliminate bottlenecks. There is a difference between providing strategic direction and actually doing the work to get there. Decide as a leadership team where you need to go and clearly communicate that, but let your team do the work to get you there without your being a bottleneck.
Bottlenecks are simply bad for business…
